Please contact our office to find out if it will be rescheduled, or if alternative classes are available. Course DescriptionJoin us as we read coming of age stories, memoirs, and adventures of young women penned by the best classic and contemporary authors. We begin with William Makepeace Thackeray's inestimable Vanity Fair. We follow with Alice Munro's fictionalized autobiography, The Lives of Girls and Women. Next we read Jesmyn Ward's prizewinning post-Katrina Salvage the Bones; then, Elizabeth Bowen's The Death of the Heart, said to be the best novel of the twentieth century. We finish with newcomer Cheryl Strayed's poignant memoir Wild. Feel free to bring a snack or bag lunch. |
